History The origins of CIF lie within CIPUSA. The founder, Dr. Henry B. Ollendorff, a lawyer and social worker, was forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1938 and immigrated to the United States, where he pursued studies and work in social work. Dr. Ollendorff’s vision was to create opportunities for youth leaders and social workers from different countries to meet and learn from each other through international professional-cultural exchange programs, aiming to prevent a recurrence of the atrocities of World War II. The program, which began in Cleveland, Ohio, attracted professionals from around the world seeking training in diverse fields. Participants returned to their home countries enriched with insights and experience and initiated the establishment of an international organization—CIF—which was officially registered in Bonn, Germany, in 1960.
